Fennel - Ground


Fennel ground - Foeniculum vulgare - flavour is similar to anis

Uses: Use to flavour breads, cakes, curries and when making chinese 5 spice. It is also a carminative relieving intestinal cramps.

Chinese Meatballs


500 gm turkey or chicken mince, 1/4 C oatmeal, 2 Tbsp chopped onion, 1/4 tsp ground ginger, 1/2 C soy sauce, 1/2 C dry white wine, 1 1/4 C water, 1 tsp crushed garlic, 3 Tbsp honey, 1/2 tsp ground fennel, 1/2 tsp 5 spice

Mix mince, oatmeal, onion & ginger. Form into small balls & place in a shallow dish.

Mix the remaining ingredients in a pan & bring to a slow boil.Cool & pour over meatballs. Marinate 3 hrs, turning meatballs occasionally. Drain marinade & save.

Brown meatballs, then pour marinade over them & bring to the boil. Then simmer 20 min.

Serve with rice.
