Pickling Spice (no chilli) - Spice Girls Blend


Ingredients: Mustard seeds - brown & yellow, black peppercorns, fennel seed, allspice , cloves, bay leaf, cinnamon quills

Uses in Cooking: An English mixture of whole spices used when pickling fruits & vegetables in vinegar. Use as a flavouring for all your pickling needs such as mustards, pickles & favourite chutneys. Infuse a bottle of vinegar with the pickling spices for 1 week. Strain spices and use in place of plain vinegar.

Pickling spices are best left whole. That way the flavor cooks in without leaving any powdery residues which can make the liquid cloudy and unappetising.
Tie pickling spices in a cheesecloth bag for easy removal when cooking meats, veggies or fish. Leave in vinegar when making pickled onions & pickles etc.
Use about 1 tablespoon pickling spice for each litre of liquid, trying to make sure you get a little of each spice in the Tbsp.
