Celery Seeds


Celery seeds - Apium graveolens - The flavour is strong, bitter, warm, astringent and lingers on the palate. Like caraway its a love it hate it spice.

Uses: Excellent with tomatoes, soups, stews, salad dressings, pickles, chutneys, cheeses, mayo. Blends well with other spices.

It is mainly used therapeutically as a diuretic (promotes urination) for bladder and kidney problems and for arthritis and rheumatism.

Coleslaw with sour cream & horseradish


In a large bowl blend the following ingredients together: 1 1/4 C sour cream, 3/4 mayonnaise, 2 Tbsp prepared horseradish, 1/4 C cider vinegar, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp celery seeds,

Add 1 small red cabbage & 1 small savoy cabbage, both shredded. Mix well so all the cabbage is coated with the dressing. Chill & serve.
